Mums in Calderdale invited to get more active

A push to get mums and their children moving has launched in Calderdale.

Mums’ Team is a drive to encourage families to be more active by joining in and leading sporty sessions – from walks to cycle rides and pram pushes to games.

The idea, from the Yorkshire Sport Foundation, is being backed by Calderdale Council which hopes to make the district most active in the North.

Ella King is one of three Mum Teams Mentors who recruit mums to be volunteers and lead activities.

“Volunteers can access funding from Yorkshire Sport to enable them to provide these activities,” she explained.

“Examples of ways the funding can be used are for things like venue hire, courses or equipment.”

There are already several activities planned. On Tuesday, November 14 there will be a muddy boots walk will take place at Ogden Water at 10am.

On Saturday, November 18, there will be a pram push from Luddendenfoot to Mytholmroyd at 10am, and at 12pm there will be cycling at Brooksbank Cycle Circuit.

Ella said: “More activities planned are going to be mums runs, mum and baby boot camps, weekend family rambles, park visits and many more exciting things.

“The most important thing is that all sessions will be free for mums to come to. We would welcome any mums to get involved in this.”
